Dr. Tracy Sands

Veterinarian, Owner
Dr. Sands' Bio
Dr. Tracy Sands grew up on a hobby sheep farm in Bedford County, Pennsylvania with many pets. When graduating high school, she actually thought she wanted to be anything but a veterinarian! Her work in college at a 24-hour veterinary facility showed her differently as she discovered that veterinarians can help people just as much if not more than they help pets. Her love of helping people by providing them ways to understand and care for their beloved friends as taken her on a long journey from being a dairy cattle vet, to a small animal veterinarian to a housecall veterinarian that founded Healing Paws Veterinary Care & Pet Resort.

Dr. Sands attended the University of Delaware, where she met her husband (a fellow Blue Hen), and then continued to the VMRCVM vet school at Virginia Tech. Go Hokies! Working in several different types of veterinary practices as an associate, Dr. Sands developed a passion to make the veterinary experience more comfortable for pets and owners alike, so she became Fear Free certified and founded Healing Paws Veterinary Care. With the growth of that practice, she found that she enjoyed developing a team of individuals who are extremely dedicated to serving clients and their pets and wanted to offer even more to the Carlisle area. This led to the design process of our permanent veterinary care and boarding facility intended to keep patients and their owners as relaxed as possible whether they are receiving medical care or enjoying the resort. Developing and leading an amazing team of veterinary support staff is so exciting to Dr. Sands that she travels speaking to other veterinarians about promoting positive work environments and creating teams that work!

Dr. Sands and her husband have a daughter and son and enjoy raising them amidst the animals they love on a small hobby sheep farm. As a member of the American Association of Feline Practitioners, you know that she has several cats and of course, dogs, sheep, and a few chickens. When on road trips with her family, Dr. Sands enjoys knitting, photography and listening to podcasts. In fact, Dr. Sands and our Client Care Specialist Alec, co-host a podcast called Vet Med After Hours that sheds light on the lives of amazing individuals in all roles in veterinary medicine.

Dr. Geof Ruppert

Veterinarian
Dr. Ruppert's Bio
Dr. Ruppert and Dr. Sands have been friends for years when they used to show wool sheep together. While he works at Healing Paws part-time, he also practices veterinary medicine in Maryland. As a Veterinarian, Dr. Ruppert enjoys having a positive influence on people’s lives each day through the care he gives their animals. Dr. Ruppert is a Fear Free certified professional who has a passion for handling his patients with great care. In his spare time, he is a well known breeder of wool sheep and a talented banjo player!

Dr. Stacey Hartman

Veterinarian
Dr. Hartman's Bio
Dr. Stacey Hartman started her career in veterinary medicine early, working in the kennels at her father’s veterinary clinic! Wanting to find the right path for her, Dr. Hartman’s early job path first explored her love of music and teaching and she has a masters degree in education. While teaching, she volunteered at an animal shelter and fell in love with the human-animal bond and the challenge of problem-solving that veterinary medicine provides. Landing on veterinary medicine as her passion and true career path, she ended up with her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the same alma mater as both Dr. Sands and Dr. Ruppert – VMRCVM (VA Tech!)

Dr. Hartman was born in Philly (look out, she is an avid Eagles fan!) but grew up in Cumberland County – so she had to return as she and her husband love the farm fresh dining, winery, and golfing experiences available in our beautiful countryside. Dr. Hartman is well rounded, to say the least – she has run a half-marathon, plays the piano and french horn is a “yogi” and has a flair for home improvement.

You will find that Dr. Hartman treats each of your pets as an individual but also as one of her own! She and her husband have 3 kitties and 3 dogs that run their household so you can be sure that your pets will be spoiled too!
