Illness & Inpatient Care

It is our promise to provide your pet with thorough & kind care at every visit. The way to make sure your pet gets that level of care is through our inpatient service; so, if your friend falls ill or is injured, when you call the clinic we will schedule a morning admission time, you will receive an electronic history form and an end of day discharge time.

Inpatient Care – During the day the nurses will lovingly care for your friend; providing pain control and a Fear Free environment along with snuggles and potty breaks. Dr. Sands will examine them thoroughly and be able to know how their condition fluctuates throughout the day. She will call you to go over any diagnostic recommendations and treatment plan and we will work together to develop a plan on how to best care and medications at home. You will be able to pay over the phone and when you arrive at the end of the day, you will receive a detailed exam chart in addition to a medication dosing chart to make any medication process easier. We will get in touch with you to discuss any diagnostics that had to be sent out to the laboratory and to address any questions you have as you care for your friend at home. If a follow up examination is needed you will have the choice to schedule that as a Concierge or Inpatient examination based on your schedule and preference. Both Dr. Sands & our pet-parents have been very pleased with our inpatient appointment style, as we are seeing more in-depth answers and quicker healing and our clients are benefiting from the flexibility.

Telemedicine – We have both doctor and nurse telemedicine appointments available for the following: nutritional consultations, behavioral consultations, puppy and kitten care advice, quality of life conversations, skin and food trial progress exams, patients who are highly stressed by veterinary visits and for pets who have been exposed to COVID suspect/positive humans in the last 2 weeks. Our telemedicine appointments are conducted either over zoom, as a scheduled phone call, or as an email conversation.

Overnight Triage Service – We want you to have an opportunity to ask questions about your pet at any time from someone you trust, so we have employed a wonderful veterinary professional service Guardian to answer your calls overnight and on the weekends. This is a complimentary service so you will pay NO EXTRA. Simply call 717-462-9480 and press “1” if our clinic is closed and you will be able to find out what is the next best step for your friend. If emergency care is needed, we highly recommend SHORES Animal Emergency center as the experience and high level of care there is quite similar to what you get at Healing Paws Veterinary Care and our clients have found that other local animal emergency centers are rather different experiences than our clinic. SHORES is open 24 hours a day and often their wait times in the late evening or early morning are very reasonable. Both Guardian & SHORES Animal Emergency will provide us with a record of the recommendations and care that was provided, and we will be in touch with you when our office reopens to see how your pet is doing and to schedule any follow up appointments you may need.
